Pohang City announced on the 20th that it will actively promote the 'Regional Industry AX Transformation Promotion Company Diagnosis and Innovation Model Development Project' to respond to the structural crisis in the steel industry and enhance the competitiveness of local industries.
The city decided to diagnose the process technology level and data utilization capacity of each company, and derive customized AX strategies and innovative solutions to improve industrial structure in response to the increasing need for industrial structural transformation as the competitiveness of the steel and metal industry has weakened recently.
In this project, an AX support team consisting of experienced professionals will directly visit companies to analyze the possibility of process automation and AI application, and provide optimal transformation strategies for each company.
The support team will define key variables for each process, establish a data collection system to secure reliable 'ground truth' data, and support the development of AI models suitable for the company environment based on this data.
The collected data will be used to develop small language models (sLM) and AI models optimized for each company environment, and the developed AI agents will provide an environment that can be actively utilized by field practitioners by organically linking with production management systems (MES), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems that the company is currently using.
Furthermore, by matching individualized solutions between demand companies and supply companies based on diagnostic results, the plan is to apply solutions tailored to the characteristics of each process, inducing substantial improvement in productivity and stabilization of quality.
In addition, it will create an environment where small and medium-sized enterprises can utilize AI technology and high-performance computing resources without initial investment burden through linkage with the establishment of a global AI data center.
Through this project, the city plans to complete an integrated AX transformation system that includes company diagnosis, solution matching, on-site application, and performance dissemination, prompting the transition of the steel-centered industrial structure to a high value-added product and service-centered industry, and deriving a strategy business development and step-by-step implementation roadmap for responding to national public projects.
Lee Sang-yeop, head of the job economy department in Pohang City, said, "This project is meaningful in supporting customized AX solutions that can be applied on-site based on company diagnosis," and added, "We will reorganize the region's key industries into AI-based industries to secure sustainable growth momentum."
