BMW Korea is set to introduce the flagship sedan, the 7 Series LCI (facelift), and the midsize SUV, the new 5th generation X5, to the domestic market by the end of the year. This strategic move aims to compete with the popular Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift and maintain leadership in the traditional premium large car market.

BMW Korea has confirmed the release of the 7 Series facelift and the 5th generation new X5 in Korea by the end of the year, and has begun preparations for the launch event and pre-contract signing.

Considering the usual several months required for government emissions and noise certifications, it is expected that after the official launch event by the end of the year, specifications and prices will be announced, pre-contracts will be signed, and customer deliveries will begin upon completion of certifications.

Initially, the 7 Series facelift was expected to be introduced in Korea early next year. However, in an effort to maintain the lead in the flagship sedan market against the rapidly advancing Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift, BMW Korea and the German headquarters have expedited the schedule.

The core of the 7 Series facelift includes a significant infusion of BMW's next-generation electrification and digital blueprint concept elements, 'Neue Klasse'. It features the front 'Iconic Glow' grille and split-type headlamps, as well as the next-generation cockpit based on 'BMW Panoramic Vision' and the latest operating system (OS) to enhance digital interfaces and user experience (UX).

The powertrain includes gasoline (740i xDrive) and diesel (740d xDrive) models with a 48V mild hybrid (MHEV) system, as well as the pure electric model 'i7' with improved battery performance.

The new 5th generation X5, following a complete redesign, also incorporates the next-generation Neue Klasse design language and innovative interfaces. Core lineup includes the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model with extended pure electric driving range of around 100 km, as well as the pure electric model 'iX5', which joins the X5 lineup for the first time.

The new X5 is initially allocated to select countries such as Germany and the United States by the end of the year. Being included in the first release list for Korea reaffirms the strategic position of the Korean market, which maintains a top global position in both sedan and SUV sales.

An import car official stated, "Introducing the 7 Series LCI and the new X5 by the end of the year is a crucial move for BMW Korea," and predicted that "it will attract the pent-up demand for luxury cars currently focused on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, leading to a fierce battle of pride between the sedan and SUV segments of both brands at the end of the year."
