Hyundai Group Chairman Chung Euisun declared the unveiling of the Genesis brand's first ultra-luxury electric SUV, the 'GV90,' as the "starting point for luxurious electrified mobility." Emphasizing the group's DNA of challenging spirit, he stated the intention to set new standards for future luxury cars.
Chairman Chung made the announcement at the 'GV90 World Premiere' event held at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco on the 19th (local time). This marked his first appearance at a new car world premiere event in over three years since the debut of the Ioniq 5 N in the UK in July 2023.
On that day, Chairman Chung explained, "The GV90 embodies Genesis' vision of future luxury, incorporating innovation in technology, design, and overall customer experience to provide customers with greater freedom." He further expressed, "As the GV90 introduces cutting-edge technology, there were many challenges to overcome, but I believe tackling these difficulties with a spirit of challenge is the DNA that Hyundai should embody."
Chairman Chung mentioned the difficulties faced during the development of the groundbreaking Hidden B-Pillar Coach Door and the 'Neo-Lunar Arch Gate.' He stated, "The journey was not easy when starting with the Genesis brand, but achieving such accomplishments in 10 years is commendable." He added, "The value of innovation lies not in the technology itself but in enhancing human experience, and based on this philosophy, we will continue to set new standards for future luxury."
Regarding the electrification roadmap, Chairman Chung referenced solid-state batteries, hybrids, and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs). Alongside high expectations for solid-state battery research, he also highlighted the commitment to hybrids and EREVs, indicating a consideration for expanding the lineup beyond the existing electric vehicle-focused strategy.
Chairman Chung defined the conditions for luxury cars, stating, "They must have good quality, be safe, and exceed expectations in value for money."
Furthermore, he revealed the group's determination for organizational improvement, stating, "Hyundai Group is evolving into a physical AI company," and added, "Through physical AI, we will continue to innovate in autonomous driving, robotics, manufacturing, and customer experience."
