LG Energy Solution has completed the establishment of five production bases in North America for the conquest of the energy storage system (ESS) market by operating its facility in Lansing, Michigan, USA.

On the 18th local time, LG Energy Solution held an opening ceremony for the Lansing plant. The Lansing plant is the seventh production facility in North America, producing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for ESS and nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) batteries for electric vehicles. The annual production capacity is over 35GWh.

LFP batteries for ESS are supplied to power infrastructure and AI data center customers through its subsidiary, Vertically Integrated Company (VerTek). The batteries for electric vehicles are expected to be installed in Toyota's 2027 Highlander, among others.

With the operation of the Lansing plant, LG Energy Solution has secured five major production bases for ESS in North America, including Lansing-Holland, Ontario, Canada, Honda joint venture plant in Ohio, and GM joint venture plant in Tennessee. The company plans to expand the production capacity of LFP batteries for North American ESS to over 50GWh by the end of this year.

Kim Dong-myeong, President of LG Energy Solution, stated, "The operation of the Lansing plant is a significant milestone that will accelerate the growth of LG Energy Solution's North American business." He added, "We will strengthen the U.S. battery ecosystem by establishing an advanced battery manufacturing network to support the future of the U.S. mobility industry and energy infrastructure, and expand local production capacity."
